Tweeddale Limousins
The herd was established on 6th May 1999 with the purchase of the Female Champion at Carlisle Red Ladies Day - Poplars Nadine. In June 1999 we purchased the remainder of the late Dennis Lomas' Glebedale herd. The star of the bunch/group was Glebedale Iloris a daughter of the famous cow Silorie who bred 3 supreme champions at Carlisle Bull Sales. The next purchase was Staveley Olwen with 2 championships under her belt. In 2001 we acquired 2 cows from Robert Graham who have been consistent breeders since. Our most recent purchase was in February 2008 - Newstart Abeille who we have great aspirations for in the future, certainly if her breeding is anything to go by.
As a commercial suckler producer the strength of the Limousin has always been recognised for its known qualities. It was therefore a natural step to take when we decided to establish Tweeddale Limousins. We have selected our females for their size and bone to produce progeny of good weight gain potential. Lines with the ability to flesh up easily was a must along with superior carcase quality. Throughout all selection and breeding we have stood by our strict intolerance of poor temperament.
